Advanced Lightning Positioning System (ALPS)
About
ALPS
The ALPS Lightning Location Network Technology
derives directly from patents originally awarded to our founder, Dr.
Rodney Bent, and has benefited from the tremendous advances in signal
processing, data processing, communications and precision timing
technologies which have taken place over the last decade.
A typical ALPS
network layout is depicted
below. An ALPS long range network typically consists of 6
lightning sensors placed some 300 to 500km from the center of the
coverage area, meaning that an area of 900,000 sq. km can readily be
covered. There is no limit to the number of sensors contained in
a network, so continental scale operations, can be readily implements.
ALPS in the first
LLS (Lightning Location System)
specifically designed to take fullest advantage of the Internet - from
the collection of lightning data through to distribution of strike
locations to users, the entire process can be handled via the Web,
radically reducing communications costs and improving accessibility of
the lighting data.
